What Is A Christian?

What must a person believe and experience to be a Christian?

Some people would say just doing the right thing makes you a Christian. Others would say going to church, reading your bible, getting baptized, praying the sinners prayer, church membership, I was born a Christian, giving to the poor, and other things you do make you a Christian.

This is the kind of question that will show the true and the false Christians.

First a Christian would be a person who sees their sin for how bad it is and have a new relationship with sin. Sin breaks the very heart of a Christian.

God saves bad people only! Jesus answered and said to them, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:31-32)

A person that does not realize they are a sinner and in need of a savior has no need of help. Christianity is a religion only for sinners. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners ( 1 Timothy 1:15)

Have you honestly faced the problem that you have sinned and one day will have to face a Holy God? God keeps everything a person has done recorded in a book that will be at your judgment.
In Revelation 20:11-15 it says: Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
All Men Die Because Adam Sinned:

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned (Romans 5:12)

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:22)

There is No Such Thing as a Good Person:

Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins. (Ecclesiastes 7:20)

It is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; (Romans 3:9-10)

For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

God will Judge every, thought, intention, word, and action of a person.

How are your thoughts and intentions? Would you really want other people to know every thought or intention you have had?

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5)

Jesus said,

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

The soul who sins will die. (Ezekiel 18:4)

God will not let one sin go unpunished. All who are found guilty will be in the second death. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

A Christian will have already felt this great burden of sin and needed a Savior. Have you ever Cried out for God to save a evil wicked person like yourself? Have you asked God to create a new heart and a right spirit in you? Have you seen there is nothing you can do to save yourself? If our best works are filthy rags all we can offer to God is our filth. Will this really be good enough on judgment day? So a true Christian knows how bad they are outside of Jesus Christ.

A Christian is someone who has seriously considered the remedy for sin. God came to save those who cannot save themselves.

The remedy is found in the person of Jesus Christ.

She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (John 14:6)

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

The only thing that can save a bad person with a bad record is Jesus Christ himself!

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)

Jesus to the wrath of God in our place.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” (Galatians 3:13)

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

There is no one so bad that the blood of Jesus Christ would not be able to save them. Come to Jesus and live!

Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7:25).

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. (John 6:35)

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. (Revelation 22:17)

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

A Christian is one who knows Jesus is the remedy for sin and response to Him.

A Christian is one who whole heartily embraces to the terms with responding to the gospel.

The terms are to repent and believe the gospel. Jesus started His preaching saying this! “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15) “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Paul preached the same thing Testifying to both Jews and Greeks of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21)

Repentance is turning away from a lifestyle about us to a lifestyle about God. A Christian believes in the person and work of Jesus Christ Alone for their salvation.

If a person is truly saved the will continue to repent and continue to believe. It is not just a onetime event but a whole new lifestyle empowered by the Holy Spirit. If you are not a Christian today is your day of Salvation! Cast yourself upon Jesus! Seek the Lord while He may be found! You never know this might be Gods last plead to you for salvation.
