Erdogan, Putin Work to Patch Ties as Economies Flag
In his first trip abroad since a failed coup last month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to meet with President Vladimir Putin in Russia on Tuesday to cement a sharp turnaround in relations. Mr. Erdogan’s visit comes amid tension with the U.S. and the European Union over his government’s mass arrests of suspected coup plotters, and brings together two leaders whose ties with the West are frayed. The two are also struggling with flagging economies and the trip is expected to focus as much on business as geopolitics, according to Turkish officials.

Jim Rogers: Brexit was nothing compared to what’s coming
The last two months alone have seen Britain leaving the European Union, terror attacks, cop killings, Deutsche Bank nearly collapsing, the German long term interest rates set at negative, to name a few. But over the next couple of years, it’s going to get a whole lot worse. As economies worsen, there will be more social unrest, more angry people, and crazier politicians. Somebody will try to come along on a white horse to save us all, but she usually makes it worse. Are we at a point right now where it feels like it’s accelerating. People all over are very unhappy about what’s going on. If you read history, there are a lot of similarities between now and the 1920s and ’30s. That’s when fascism and communism broke out in much of the world. And a lot of the same issues are popping up again.

Trump fundraising sets off Clinton camp alarms
Taken aback by the size of Donald Trump’s July fundraising haul, Hillary Clinton’s campaign is quickly working to beef up its efforts to raise campaign cash before the fall – sending the candidate, running mate Tim Kaine, and former President Bill Clinton on an all-out financial sprint through August while explicitly warning top fundraisers this week that they need to pick up the pace.

Did Hillary Clinton’s email discussion lead to Iran nuclear scientist death?
Hillary Clinton recklessly discussed, in emails hosted on her private server, an Iranian nuclear scientist who was executed by Iran for treason, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said Sunday. “I’m not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton’s private server, there were conversations among her senior advisors about this gentleman,” he said on “Face the Nation.” Cotton was speaking about Shahram Amiri, who gave information to the U.S. about Iran’s nuclear program. The senator said this lapse proves she is not capable of keeping the country safe.

NWO GLOBAL GOVERNMENT, ISLAM & SHARIA
The Islamic State is trying to change up the leadership of Nigerian-based Boko Haram and has appointed a new leader who is vowing to bomb churches and kill all Christians. IS (also known as ISIS or ISIL) announced Wednesday in its al-Nabaa newspaper that Abu Musab al-Barnawi is the new leader of its Nigerian-affiliated outfit, calling him the “Wali” (governor) of its West African Province. In an interview published by the IS news source that was translated by the SITE Intelligence Group, al-Barnawi vowed to kill less Muslims and more Christians.

New mantra to deny Islamic terror: ‘Mental illness’
It certainly seems that way, says a noted expert on jihad. The latest “mentally unstable” young man to launch a seemingly random attack on unarmed civilians was Zakaria Bulhan, a 19-year-old Somali Muslim who had been resettled in Norway at the age of 5. Bulhan singled out an American woman in London and stabbed her to death Wednesday on a busy square filled with tourists, then injured five others in a stabbing spree before being apprehended. “Authorities have ascribed jihad terror to mental illness on numerous occasions,” said Robert Spencer, including the Orlando, San Bernardino and Chattanooga attacks in the United States. Sometimes it sticks, but usually, days, weeks or even months later, when few people are still paying attention, the police will retract their earlier statements and admit it was a terrorist attack.

Watching The Nations Amass Against Israel
Israel’s rightwing government is embarking on a diplomatic push as it seeks to take advantage of shared strategic interests to consult traditional Arab enemies, African nations and European countries. Amid mounting concerns among Sunni Muslim nations about Iran’s influence, particularly in conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, Israel is discreetly consulting on security with Arab powers, including those with whom it has no formal relations. “The Sunni Arab states increasingly see the Middle East through the same prism as Israel,” Dore Gold, Israel’s acting foreign minister, told the Financial Times.

Aleppo battle seesaws: pro-Assad siege in place
The battle for Aleppo was locked in a draw Monday, Aug. 8 – contrary to the claims of Syrian rebel forces to have broken through the weeks-long government siege on the city and seized key positions from Assad’s army and its allies, Hizballah and pro-Iranian Shiite militias. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the rebels had not yet secured control of the roads linking western and eastern Aleppo. Neither was there any sign of the heavy Russian air strikes claimed by the rebels Sunday afternoon to have been launched in an effort to halt their advance. According to our sources, intensive air strikes are indeed being conducted in the Aleppo theater – but only by the Syrian air force.

Islamic State militants claim capture of U.S. weapons in Afghanistan
Militants linked to Islamic State have released photos that purport to show weapons and equipment that belonged to American soldiers and were captured by the group in eastern Afghanistan. The photos, which came to light on Saturday, show an American portable rocket launcher, radio, grenades and other gear not commonly used by Afghan troops, as well as close up views of identification cards for a U.S. Army soldier, Specialist Ryan Larson. The U.S. military command in Kabul denied any suggestion the soldier had been captured, saying he “has been accounted for and remains in a duty status within his unit.”

N. Korea accuses US of seeking ‘pre-emptive nuclear strike’
North Korea has accused Washington of planning a pre-emptive nuclear strike, after the US announced it would deploy its B-1 bomber in the Pacific for the first time in a decade. The strategic aircraft were to be deployed on Saturday on the US island of Guam, the US military said last month, describing the operation as a routine rotation with the B-52 bomber. Tensions have been running high since North Korea carried out its fourth nuclear test in January, followed by a barrage of missile launches that this month reached Japanese waters directly for the first time. Pyongyang accused Washington of “becoming all the more pronounced in their moves to topple down the DPRK by mobilizing all nuclear war hardware,” using North Korea’s official title.
